A 22-year-old woman, daughter of an IRS officer, has been found murdered in Delhi. Investigations suggest sexual assault and strangulation are involved.
A 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior officer in the Indian Revenue Service, was discovered deceased in her home in the upscale Kailash Hills area of southeast Delhi, raising serious concerns and prompting an extensive police investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning while her parents were reportedly at the gym.
According to preliminary police findings, the victim may have been sexually assaulted and strangled with a mobile phone charging cable. The initial investigations indicate she was alone in the house at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement officials have identified a former domestic worker, Rahul Meena, as a key suspect in this case. Rahul Meena, aged 19, had worked in the victim’s home for approximately eight months before being dismissed around six weeks ago due to alleged financial misconduct.
Reports suggest that Meena was familiar with the family’s daily routine, including the timing of their gym visits, which may have facilitated his entry into the house. He was reportedly seen on CCTV footage in the vicinity around 6:00 am on Wednesday, shortly before the body was discovered.
Upon returning home, the victim’s father, Dinesh Gupta, an IRS officer of the 1997 batch, found his daughter in a pool of blood, leading him to alert the police immediately. Forensic teams have been analysing the crime scene, where the body was located on the floor, accompanied by various scattered items.
Authorities suspect that the victim might have resisted the assault, leading to her being struck on the head with a blunt object prior to strangulation. While there are indications of possible sexual assault, conclusive confirmation is awaited from medical examinations.
In a broader investigation, police have registered cases of rape, murder, and robbery, intensifying their efforts to apprehend the suspect. Teams have been deployed to locate Meena, who is believed to be evading capture and remains missing since the incident.
While authorities have focused on Rahul Meena, they are also interviewing several individuals, including a car cleaner and a domestic helper from the nearby area. There is concern for public safety and outrage over the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, particularly in an area known for its affluence.
