Singer Anuradha Paudwal responds to backlash about her remarks on Ram Mandir donations and India’s status as a ‘Vishwaguru’.
Renowned Indian singer Anuradha Paudwal has recently faced criticism for comments she made regarding the alleged misuse of donations connected to the Ram Mandir and India’s pursuit of becoming a ‘Vishwaguru’, or global leader. In a post shared on Instagram, Paudwal expressed her discontent with how her statements have been portrayed and insisted that discussions must not be sensationalised or taken out of context.
In her message, she stated, “Namaskar to all my family, friends, and fans. I appreciate the love and respect you have given me for my work. I also love and respect my nation and its leadership. Every citizen, including myself, understands that we need to be educated to grow and lead in this world. I will always stand by that.” Paudwal emphasised that the right to express opinions respectfully should be upheld in India.
She added, “But I thoroughly resent when a conversation is taken out of context and sensationalised, giving a wrong tone. I do not endorse those videos and request people not to encourage such creators. This is not a clarification; no one is allowed to use a conversation out of context for their convenience.”
The controversy originated from Paudwal’s discussion on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, where she critiqued the narrative surrounding India’s global leadership ambitions. Despite advocating for India’s potential as a ‘Vishwaguru’, she voiced concerns about the educational infrastructure, questioning reports of thousands of school closures. She remarked, “A few years ago, I also believed that India would become a Vishwaguru. But now I see more and more things happening that seem to contradict that vision. This nonsense needs to stop.”
Additionally, she referenced an alleged donation scam linked to the Ram Mandir, highlighting that incidents at significant religious sites raise pressing concerns. Paudwal underlined that India’s moral foundations must align with its ambitions of global leadership before it can truly claim the mantle of ‘Vishwaguru’.
As her statements ignited a range of reactions on social media, many users expressed division between supporting her critique and defending the narrative she questioned. The public discourse surrounding her comments suggests a deeper examination of both national aspirations and societal issues in contemporary India.
Paudwal’s response serves not only as a defence of her views but also as a call for more nuanced conversations around critical topics in India’s trajectory as a nation.
