BJP workers in Delhi protest, calling for Rahul Gandhi’s apology over alleged attacks on women, citing incidents during recent protests.
BJP workers gathered outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday, demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. This protest was ignited by allegations of attacks on women during a recent demonstration led by Gandhi. The Delhi BJP has claimed there has been misbehaviour with its Mahila Morcha members.
Mohan Lal Gihara, general secretary of the Delhi BJP, highlighted two recent incidents involving Gandhi, stating, “Just two days ago, Gandhi misbehaved with women police personnel, and yesterday evening, he pushed a pregnant woman journalist.” These allegations have led to a formal police complaint by the BJP regarding the incidents described during the protests.
The BJP Mahila Morcha held this demonstration against alleged harassment of female students by Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Congress MP from Manipur. Approximately 8 to 10 female activists attempted to reach the main gate of the Congress headquarters but were reportedly pushed back and verbally assaulted by Congress workers.
The demonstration unfolded at the Bal Bhawan gate located on DDU Marg, where police had established barricades to restrict the protestors. Several protestors were detained during the demonstration as tensions escalated. The BJP continues to assert that these incidents are part of a larger trend of misbehaviour towards women associated with the Congress party, calling for accountability from its leaders.
This incident adds to the ongoing political tensions in the region as various parties continue to engage in public demonstrations amidst a charged political landscape. The situation remains fluid as the BJP remains firm in its demands and the Congress party responds to the accusations made against its leaders.
