An autopsy report details the brutality of the Delhi rape-murder case involving a former house help and an IIT graduate victim.
An autopsy report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has highlighted the shocking details surrounding the murder of a 22-year-old woman in Delhi’s Kailash Hills. The victim, an IIT graduate preparing for the Union Public Service Commission examinations, was discovered with multiple injuries indicative of a brutal assault.
The autopsy cited injuries including a fractured neck and a broken nose, as well as severe damage to the victim’s neck, specifically the thyroid cartilage. According to Dr Sudhir Gupta, Head of the Forensic Department at AIIMS, the body bore numerous abrasions and bruises, suggesting a struggle as the victim tried to defend herself against her attacker.
The autopsy also revealed intramuscular hemorrhage in the muscles around the neck, which supports the assertion of strangulation. All internal organs were found congested, consistent with asphyxia caused by strangulation. Various samples, including viscera and scrapings, have been preserved for forensic analysis to ascertain if rape occurred, as indicated by the findings.
The incident took place when the victim’s parents, an Indian Revenue Service officer and a dentist, were absent from their home. The perpetrator, identified as Rahul Meena, a former domestic worker, allegedly entered their apartment using a spare key left outside for staff. CCTV footage captured Meena entering the apartment at approximately 6:39 am and leaving around 7:15 am.
Meena is accused of confronting the victim, demanding cash, and subsequently attacking her. Following her loss of consciousness, he allegedly raped her. In an attempt to access a fingerprint-protected locker, he reportedly dragged her body down the stairs and attempted to unlock it using her fingers, before ultimately breaking it open and fleeing with valuables estimated at around ₹2 lakh in cash and ₹10 lakh in jewellery.
After the crime, Meena changed his bloodstained clothing and was arrested later in Dwarka, where he initially tried to evade capture by hiding on a nearby hill. When presented in Saket court, he expressed remorse, stating that he committed the act for money and sought the victim’s fingerprint to open the locker. Notably, prior to this crime, he is alleged to have raped another woman in Alwar, Rajasthan.
This case continues to provoke a strong response from the community, intensifying ongoing concerns regarding safety, particularly that of women, in urban areas like Delhi. The local authorities have been urged to implement stronger measures to enhance personal security and prevent similar incidents in the future.
