Tim David’s stunning performance at M Chinnaswamy Stadium secures a memorable win for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026 against Chennai Super Kings.
Tim David showcased his extraordinary batting prowess in a recent Indian Premier League match, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a commanding victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In just 25 balls, David scored 70 runs, hitting an astonishing eight sixes, a performance that has left fans and players alike in awe.
During his IPL career, Tim David has established himself as a formidable six-hitter, boasting more sixes (69) than fours (58) in his 52-match history. In IPL 2026 alone, he has already racked up nine sixes from just 35 balls faced, a testament to his explosive style of play.
When David entered the match, RCB was scoring at an impressive rate of 10.70 runs per over. At that moment, Rajat Patidar, his batting partner, was also in fine form. David began his innings cautiously but soon accelerated spectacularly. After just 16.2 overs, the score was 174 for 3. By the end, however, thanks to David’s efforts, RCB had surged to a formidable total of 250 runs.
In his rapid scoring spree, David went from three runs off six balls to 65 runs off 23 balls in a breathtaking display of power hitting. Following a crucial bye taken with Patidar, the match took a dramatic turn. David’s eight sixes and two fours transformed RCB’s innings and left the CSK bowlers stunned.
Stephen Fleming, head coach of CSK, remarked on the impact David had on the game, highlighting that the acceleration in the final overs was pivotal. “The real turning point was Tim David in that last part, the acceleration through the last five overs,” he stated. “I thought it was a relatively even contest until that point.”
The match could have seen a different outcome had Anshul Kamboj not bowled a perfect yorker that struck David’s leg stump in the 18th over. However, Kamboj’s celebration was briefly overshadowed when it was revealed he had overstepped, leading to a free hit. This opportunity proved catastrophic for CSK, as David struck the free hit for six before proceeding to score an additional 30 runs in an over from bowler Jamie Overton.
The final stages of David’s innings were electrifying, culminating in a six that cleared the roof of the stadium, travelling an impressive 106 metres. Post-match, David reflected on this moment, explaining, “I’ve been getting in trouble during training with the boys. To get one during a match out of the middle, help it up on the roof, it was good fun.”
David’s innings not only dazzled the crowd but also set a record for the most runs scored in the death overs by any batter in IPL history, with 68 runs in that phase alone. His contribution was especially significant considering he had been sidelined from the Big Bash League due to injury and faced a challenging T20 World Cup, where he scored just six runs across two matches.
After the match, David expressed his gratitude for the preparation he undertook with teammates, particularly Dinesh Karthik, praising their collaborative efforts in training. He noted the importance of maintaining confidence and taking risks to succeed in high-pressure situations. His teammate, Devdutt Padikkal, praised David’s clarity in targeting specific bowlers and the confidence that comes with his technique.
As RCB continues its campaign in IPL 2026, Tim David’s explosive display against CSK emphasises his role as a crucial asset in their quest for success, signalling his return to top form after recent trials.
