Aryna Sabalenka Dominates US Open First Round, Advances Easily

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka secures a swift victory in the US Open, setting sights on a third consecutive title.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka began her campaign at the 2026 US Open with a commanding performance against Colombia’s Camila Osorio. The Belarusian secured victory in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Sabalenka’s impressive form included hitting 32 winners during the match, which lasted just over an hour and 27 minutes.

Sabalenka, the top seed in the tournament, is aiming to become only the third woman in history to win three consecutive US Open titles, following in the footsteps of tennis greats Serena Williams and Chris Evert. Her next challenge comes against Polina Iatcenko from Russia.

In the first set, the match saw Sabalenka capitalise on Osorio’s unforced errors, including five double faults. These mistakes contributed to Sabalenka establishing a strong lead, breaking Osorio’s serve and taking the set 6-2.

The second set demonstrated a more competitive contest, yet Sabalenka’s consistency ultimately prevailed, allowing her to seal the match with another break of serve. This matches the spirit and determination that have characterised her journey in previous tournaments.

As the competition progresses, Sabalenka’s performance will be closely followed by fans and analysts alike, especially considering her aspirations to add another title to her growing list of achievements. The ongoing US Open not only tests her physical capabilities but also her mental strength as she aims for greatness in this iconic tournament.
